How I Fixed android.process.acore Has Stopped on my LG G3 Device

So for the better part of a week now, at the worst possible time of course while I was 2 days into a week long vacation, I ran into “android.process.acore has stopped” error message on my LG G3 phone with Android version 5.0.1.

Here is what I experienced and to say it was a little annoying is an understatement. I noticed that every time something attempted to access any contacts a popup window would appear on my screen saying “android.process.acore has stopped”. This little dialog box, no matter what I was doing, would take focus away and keep me pretty much from doing anything other than dictating through Google Text related apps.

I tried All the “easy fixes” and “tricks” to solve this issue and yeah, nothing worked. I was one of the “difficult ones to fix” or so every reference that I found on the web to fix it stated.

I tried going to Settings > Apps > All Apps > Contacts and Contact Storage and did Clear Data, Force Stop and Clear Cache with no luck.

I tried Settings > Apps > three little dots, Tap on them and then selected Choose Reset App Preferences > Reset Apps. Yeah, still no luck.

Some people recommended removing Contacts but with my LG G3 it comes with the Stock ROM and I am unable remove it.

The final option I found was do a Factory Reset. I was not willing to do this yet as I had over 3 years of data and usage on my phone from Apps I use daily, to Photos and Music to worlds on Minecraft. I was not going to go down this road unless I had to.

So, I tried to clear the stuff one last time and still no luck. Then I remembered reading something sometime that Contacts pull Facebook contacts. Not only that but I started thinking that I thought I had read something on an update the Facebook Messenger was now a “one stop messaging app with phone, sms and other features”. Could this be my problem?

So, I pulled the trigger and uninstalled Facebook Messenger and to my surprise, my nearly every 5-15 second popup dialog box stopped. Not only did that stop but I once again had access to Phone and Contacts which I had not been able to use in about a week.

Problem Solved! I was able to resync my contacts with my Google Contacts again and I’m back to normal – aside from now needing to set ALL my App Preferences again 8( … However, I would rather want to do just that than that ugly final option of a Factory Reset which a lot of others had to do – which, ironically uninstalled Facebook Messenger.

If you run into this problem, hopefully you have tried these items before the dreaded Factory Reset and it has helped.

  1. It really worked. My LG G3 stylus was giving me the same problem. I cleared the data and cache of my contact and contact storage,it didn’t work until I uninstalled my Facebook. I am so glad I can use my phone in peace now.

    1. Hi Debby,

I’m glad that helped. It took quite a while and researching to get mine to start working again. Unfortunately my LG G3 finally died due to physical issues related to body cracks and various circuit board components starting to come loose (bluetooth, rear camera, and wireless chips).

    2. In my case, it was a matter of uninstalling malware and antivirus apps. It worked without the need of a restart. My culprit was Malware bytes. It constantly updates and has access to contacts, among other things. It was always popping up in my notifications. I zapped it, and voilà.

I could always download another antivirus or malware app later.

  2. I started having issues with the pop up message. I factory reset my phone 3 three times, same thing.

I went to my service provider and the customer service agent told me its a software issue and they cannot fix it. I have to take it to a phone repair shop.

Finally I decided to look to the internet for help and that’s when I saw all the comments he from different persons with the same issue saying to delete Facebook. And I did and now I can use me phone in peace.

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Merlander,

I’m glad this trick worked for you as well. With doing the factory reset what might have been happening is all the apps were reinstalling including Facebook Messenger again. That is only a theory though because we had to “reset” my daughter’s new phone (her first) countless times because it could not get MMS messages from Trac Phone’s network. Needless to say, it was an issue on their side that could not be fixed with her account for what appeared to be more than 30 days at a time. Dropped them and went with a different provider and haven’t looked back since.

But, every time we did the factory reset, all the apps would automatically reinstall. This probably was your case as well and therefore the problem would resurface.

  3. Thanks for your phenomenal help. I couldn’t even back up my contacts because of the error. Really going nuts.
Many thanks and prayers for you.
So should i use facebook from chrome mobile?

    1. As far as using Facebook from Chrome mobile, I do not know. I was able to eventually get an updated of the Facebook app to work but did not reinstall the Facebook Messenger app. A Side note, I have since upgraded my phone to a newer Samsung S8 (newer at the time) and I am able to run both Facebook and Facebook Messenger.

  4. My phone is a LG G3 and there is this problem and I don`t have Facebook, only Instagram and deleted the app and still, no problem solved, also tried to clear the data from contacts and contacts storage and still no results, so what is the problem?

  5. I fixed my problem by uninstalling google apps, especificaly google ebooks, music and lay movies and the cesshing reports sropped and now I can use the contact and call people again.

    1. I’m glad you were able to solve it Eric. Sometimes apps just have conflicting pieces that some times required software does not like and it can be a real pain to figure out which is causing it.

  6. My phone even switches offf😢😥yet l don’t have Facebook Messenger… Please help 😓🙏

    1. I wish I could help you but I do not have a clue. Something probably got corrupted or something or your battery doesn’t hold a charge? My LG G3 eventually died due to hardware related failures. My camera quick working, wifi chip fell off the main board, etc. From what I’ve read some of these were cheaply produced at high speeds and the chips are not fully baked onto the main board resulting in separation over time. Best of luck!

  7. Thank you very much it works the first time I did it but now I still have the same problem and that method is not working again please what can I do again to solve this problem

    1. I wish I knew more Osvald but fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, my LG G3 completely stopped working because the wifi chip came off the logic board. This rendered my phone worthless for me so I had to replace it. Have you tried any of the other suggestions other users have commented above?

  8. Thank u for ur inspiration..
today 27/03/2023 tried everything including factory reset.
finally saw this and i didnt had facebook installed.
by the way thought to do that to whatsapp.
    it worked…
final solution..instead of facebook, whatsapp also can be the cause..
